Would you like to experience the joy of fishing at an exceptional site, designated as a historic site by the Commission for Monuments and Sites?
Welcome to the famous “Fonds de Quarreux” on the Amblève. A place where they say you must fish at least once in your lifetime…
The fishing stretch spans 18 km and consists of a non-contiguous series of 19 sections located between Coo and Remouchamps; it can be divided into two parts: upstream and downstream of the Lorcé Dam. In this section, the Amblève is 25–30 m wide and has an average depth of 50 to 80 cm.
The riverbanks are relatively “wild”; downstream from the Lorcé Dam, the river’s character truly comes into its own. It is at a place known as “Fonds de Quarreux” that the scene becomes particularly striking: here, the Amblève’s riverbed consists solely of quartzite boulders, between which the water carves its way with impressive force.
The Amblève is home to a mixed fish population; fast-water cyprinids are well represented here. The barbel is making a strong comeback, and there are also some fine pike to be found. However, it is the trout that is the most sought-after species.
All fishing techniques can be used on the Amblève, but given the river’s size and the numerous spots it offers, it’s best to focus on active casting techniques. The stretch also attracts many fly fishermen who, in addition to trout, target grayling and chub. Two “no-kill” sections are available to them.
In addition to the beauty of the surroundings, this section of the Amblève harbors countless fish hiding spots and requires anglers to demonstrate their full skill.
